A day in my model life

Hello everyone

I have a week vaction in my day job, but this doesn´t mean Iam not doing anything...

Having a week off meant that I had time to get my hair cut at "Cut Corner" in Düsseldorf ("home" of Mo Rouge, hairstylist of the book Rock n Hair). I convinced Mo to cut off my long tresses cause I just can´t set them anymore...

Bye bye hair.....
And I got them styled as well and managed to sneak in some promo ;-)
Dooooone! They are still a bit over shoulder lenght when unstyled, but I can manage them again! Yay!!!! Afterwards I took and exhausting 5 minute walk down the street for a quick fitting at DSigns and went to my fav Second Hand Shop afterwards. I badly wanted to get a red or navy blue bag, but than I found a small red suitcase from th 60s and decided to go for this one as it is more interesting than a bag (everyone will asume I go to exotic travels all over the world....)

And here is me passing the Neuss City Gate on my way back home.... Me and John allways pass it instead of taking the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street - just because it is way cooler than to go the "ordinary way".

Inofficial Sari Merch :-)

Hello everyone,

there is no official Sari merchandise (eventhough I secretly dream of a Sari dress collection which is.... emmmm... not going to happen anytime soon or ever) however there are actually Sari things that you can buy at a bunch of places, so if you want a piece of me for yourself - right on :-)

The Sari dress! The first dress I ever modelled for a label! And so far the only one that has my name :-) Actually I badly want one for myself cause it is so beautifull and flattering!!! Check out Lucky Divas Dawanda Shop! http://de.dawanda.com/product/320255-Sari-Dress

Rock ´n`Hair. The book with me on the cover (and in it)
Available here: http://www.rocknhair.de/ and here http://www.luckylola.de/product_info.php/info/p1249_Rock-n-Hair-Hairstyles.html for the German version. There is a English Version available now and if you are interested in it the best way to order it and to get details about it is to write and email to: info@rocknhair.de

Rockabilly Ruhrpott DVD, where you can see me speaking on Pin up is available for pre-order (and it will be available with English subtitles as well) here: http://www.filmlichter.de/component/content/article/330

And just in case you allways wanted to have me hanging on your wall: http://www.kunst.ag/_kunst/kunstwerke/kunstwerk/170170 (there are also limited edition prints of this, but I have no idea how much they cost)

What makes a model a good one?

Hi everyone,

you may answer the question above with "that she is skinny, tall and underage". This may go for mainstream standard, but what is with the rest of us? The fat, old dwarfs like me? (by model-standards).

Answer: Research, Preparation, Dedication.

Research: I have tons of magazines, books on various topics. Mostly about topics such as history, fashion, make up, art, culture and even books on behaviour. Whenever I plan something I usually do a good amount of research with my books and the internet.

Not only of fashion and make up, but also on poses that might fit the topic, interpretations, symbolism, etc. etc. Often you can´t tell bout all the stuff that actually goes into a photo, but believe me, sometimes I spend hours googling on a subject just to give it my interpretation.

Preparation: You can´t go to a shooting smelling like a toilet exploded next to you with unshaved legs, tired eyes etc. etc. It actually works best if you have a special preparation ritual. Mine includes a hot bath, a facial, manicure and pedicure before I go to bed the evening before the shoot.

You have to get the clothes and props together that you need. This is very important cause if something is missing chances are that you are screwed! You also have to communicate what sort of pictures are actually planned. I´m a hunter of props and acessoires. Both for shootings that are planned and for future shoots. I often browse ebay and sometimes when I´m out and about shopping something catches my eye that would make a good costume or prop. If it isn´t way out of my price range I will take it along just in case. Often I make things myself based on ideas I have for photos and than get to use it when the photographer and me agree that this could be a fabulous topic.

Sometimes I try a make up or hairstyling weeks before I actually shoot it, just to make sure that it suits me and that I can apply it in the way it is meant to be. Believe me it is an advantage when you can do your own hair and make up.

Dedication: I don´t need to explain that hanging on to those things on a daily base needs a lot of dedication and enthusiasm, it also does to take the energy to look out for cool new shootings. There is allways someone taller, thinner, prettier than you. But you have it in your hands what you make with what you´ve got and to use your individual knowledge and your skills to score. Cause let´s face it: The fewest of us are agency-material, we have to be our managers, our webdesigners, our promoters, our make up artist, our stylist and our designer and all of this at once.

This applies to all sort of models that don´t fit the sheme of what is considered model-material. And in many cases even the ones that DO fit. And when I say so you can actually trust in it as I´m a fat old modelling dwarf since amost 6 years ;-)

Casting video out take

As people keep asking ;-)

This out-take didn´t make it to the finished video as I didn´t want to make them believe I´d trash up their expensive set or something... ;-) The video is in German, but I´m sure you´ll get the point anyway... If

I rewatched the original video and it doesn´t seem as embarassing anymore today ;-)

How to do a castingvideo in 2 hours

Hi everyone!

So yesterday I got a message from one of the agency I signed up with. I rarely ever get anything from agencies as mostly people just search me  themselves or drop me a mail cause they saw me somewhere. They asked wether I had the time to go to a casting in Berlin this Saturday. They´d like to submit photos of me to a big designer.

I have never been to a casting, so I was curious, plus the designer is sort of huge so I said "Ok, submit my pics." However I did not expect anything to happen. We are talking about a size 40 Retro Pin up Model presented to a top-notch fashion designer guru.

So I was surprised when my phone rang today and it was the agency. They were interested in ME. However the casting got delayed to a date under the week, So I was sad cause that just isn´t possible. However the casting staff seemed to like me indeed so they said "Ok, than make a casting video and send it to us." So I got instructions for the video and recorded one with the camera standing on my computer as John was still working. I edited it so it wouldn´t be too lame, threw in some snipets from my latest shootings and a few photos and ran to the post-office.

I heard the big boss is the one watching it. I wore my blue playsuit with the white and green flowers that I showed in my bargain-post previously. I just wanted to make sure he´ll notice me ;-)

And I told tons of stuff I could kill myself for on the video. Stuff like that Iam a ebay-addict - I even showed the latest dress I bought. And that I´d buy me a bigger bookshelf if I get the job. And my aunt calling my nose a potatoe. Oh well, the agency said I should tell something about myself. ;-) I hope he has sense of humour, than he´ll have a good time watching no matter wether he´ll actually decide to book me.

I called my Mom cause usually I have no major news to tell when she asks me for them. Today I sure had. I´m very very nervous. It would be totally sureal if they choose me and I´d go to Berlin to shoot for them!!! A whole new level in my career. The chance is small - but it exists!

If they take me I´ll put my dorky casting video online cause in that case it can´t be that horrible. If not it will remain in my archives and I hope my grandchildren will make tons of cash with this exclusive material :-D

Wish me luck. But hey, even if they do not take me I at least got their attention for about 5 minutes and entertained them.
