Grace and Glory - a book by Paula Kopczynski

Hello everyone,

I had the pleasure to work with Paula during two occasions, so when she asked me whether I wanted to see a preview of her newly released book "Grace and Glory" and whether I wanted to write a review about it I was on board immediately!

I have to tell the funny and slightly weird story on how we got to know each other first. A few years ago the lovely Anne-Marie Morschek, designer of the lovely Shop Fräulein Valentine which happened to be in my neighborhood had a flyer in her shop window where someone was looking for models for an upcoming vintage styling book. As I am always on the look out for fun shooting I sent an email to the email adress stated on the flyer, along with some og my most beloved photos and I got an reply from Paula.

It was something along the lines of "Is there any chance you happen to know my father?". After inquiring I found out that YES I had shooted in her dads studio with one of his photography students a few years back. What a fantastic and highly unlikely coincidence! so off course we were shooting for the book "Rock ´n´ Hair" together and the rest is history ;-)
Anyway, Paula has taken some amazing photos of beautifull retro ladies and gentlemen, both at studios, outdoors events etc etc and has put a collection of those into her new book "Grace and Glory". A few previously unreleased ones of myself are in it too, in case you wonder.

The book summary states: "As a creative, free spirit, she dedicates this book to her passion fervor for the mid-century. She combines the self-conception of the modern Lady and the contemporary masculinity with the glamorous look of that period. Those men and women are self-confident and in proper-style. They know what the want and they know how to style themselves. To collect all these images, Paula traveled throughout the world. The photos were shot within Europe, US, Australia, South Africa and Russia in between 2009-2014. She varies between using analog and digital cameras. The book is mainly shot with a digital medium format camera, as well as, 50's analog camera, and polaroid. The round about 200 photos show the rockabilly scene, the 50's, vintage, PinUps, Burlesque, HotRods, Car races ... and much more!"

On 164 pages you get to see beautifull people at beautifull places and amazing cars, so if you have a soft spot for those things (and let´s face it, who hasn´t?) it is really a book you should consider buying. Personally I allways love to look at other ladies and get inspired by their hair, make up, clothes etc... It probably says a lot about the quality of the book by stating that I have ordered a printed copy for myself ;-) I will make sure to post some photos of old me once it as come :-)

Me in Dynamite Magazine 05/2011

Hello everyone,

seriously: I was allways thinking someone at the German Rockabilly Magazine Dynamite must hate me. And others where wondering me why I never was in it, too, as I was Germanys first pin up girl and have been pin upping around for more than 7 years and not once they wrote something about me or had the tiniest picture of me in it. Well, they didn´t write about me this time either, but at least my picture is in it now ;-) They wrote a review about the "Rock ´n Hair" Book and as Iam the books covergirl I ended up beeing there, too ;-) Yay! Maybe the spell is broken now?

You can order the magazine here: http://www.dynamite-magazine.de/ and find it in every bigger trainstations magazine store. And hey, YOU can write them how much you enjoyed seeing ME in their magazine. Just kidding. ;-)

If you have not gotten the "Rock ´n Hair" book yet you should go here: http://rocknhair.de/ and order. Pronto!!!! :-)

Rockabilly Ruhrpott - The Press Round up

Little did I know when two years ago I was approached to do an interview for a documentary about Rockabilly in Ruhrpott. Ir was done by two movie students and their aim was to do this documentary and maybe show it on some movie festivals...

Two years later one of my Facebook friends wrote me "Hey, I saw you in a documentary on 3Sat yesterday!!!" It turned out that "Rockabilly Ruhrpott" made it into the program "Kulturzeit" AND is beeing shown in selected cinemas. This is more than the makers ever expected and more that I expected as well. I have yet to see the TV version as I just saw some sort of "Directors Cut" a year ago, so I have no idea what of my interview remained... I ordered the DVD from the tv station, but they told me it can take up to two months till I get it... buhu... I bet everybody but me saw it....

Me. I was bigger two years ago, but definately me :-)
Here´s the trailer of the directors cut, made about 1,5 years ago.

And I was just as amazed to find there is a huuuuge load of movie reviews!!! A selected few of many, many ones (in German, but well, you can use the google translator if you wanna read it anyway). Congrats to Christin and Claudia who made the movie and all the interviews! Your vision took a completely different turn, but a lot of people will see your hard work!

Sailor Sunday

Hi everyone,

so as no photographer was to be found to snap outdoor photos I grabbed John, put my Canon into his hands and told him to make some. He has a good eye for asthetics. He´s also the only one that has permission to criticise the way I dress and style in my every day life (which does not mean, that I allways listen to what he has to say ;-).
"Take a photo of my shadow now!" The sun-umbrella sure added some special effect.
As my photo featuring a pair of my cool cat eye sunglasses proofed so popular here´s a photo of me wearing another pair of darling sunglasses! And a georgous umbrella that John gifted to me last year (I told ya he has good taste). Than we went to the harbor of Düsseldorf and the area around it and took some pics.
Guess who´s totally into photographing architecture?

A policeman stopped by when we took the swimsuit picture, but not because he wanted to complain or shoo us away.... He just wanted to watch a little :-D As did the group of people behind John. And everyone we passed by. Maybe they just liked the white sunglasses I´m holding in my hands.

Actually we had so much fun, that we consider another photosession tommorow...

For hot mamas - No psychedelic maternity fashion over here

Hi everyone,

first: No, I don´expect a little Sari, but today I went past a maternity fashion shop and it hurt my eyes. While I think any woman is supposed to show off her babybelly with pride there are horrible things around for the mother to be. However lately I saw many online shops with very pretty stuff for expecting ladies popping up and I felt like mentioning it. (There seems to be a baby boom lately).

Hooray for hot mamas! And everything is affordable, too! I think it was never easier to grow your bump with style :-)
