Back from the country of snow

Hi everyone!
it is true. We survived the minus degrees and the snow in Stockholm. However we didn´t take that many photos this time around. It was so cold, that I wore way too many layers to look cute anyway. ;-)

We did a fair lot of shopping - to our convenience we were located right in the middle of Södermalm which is THE vintage shopping district of Stockholm. This was sure an advantage to me. (Hence there will be more photos of the little treasures I hunted down, than of myself). We also went to some museums again and we got to see the frozen sea... Funnily whenever a ship passed through the ice pieces started to move like jelly. I think John filmed that so maybe there will be a short clip of that.... For the moment I present you a photo of me wrapped in 3000 layers of clothes standing at the frozen sea looking sort of... cold cause I actually was ;-)
We kept warm consuming lots of hot beverages, cake and shrimps...

I know that there are some ladies that wanna check out my bargains, so here we go... (Photographed in the green vintage suitcase that I picked up today)

It truely sucks when your favourite make up brand is only available in Sweden. However it is a good excuse to buy a damn lot of it when I´m there ;-)

A red dress & mexican mini-petticoat bought at "Beyound retro". The tiny tiny mexican hat and the Tiki statue are from a antique shop named "Loppmannen" located at Skeppars Karls Gränd close to the Royal castle.

I bought me a swedish book on vintage in order to learn more about interesting local designers from the past. It never hurts to learn something new. The magazine is again from "Loppmannen", the hat is a H & M bargain and I grabbed the little 60s repro dress at "Myrorna" for about 6 €.

I bought a politically uncorrect vintage coat at Beyound Retro. I wasn´t sure wether to buy it, as it has fur on it, but as it was reduced and John kept telling me how great it looks on me I took it (after all the animal providing the fur is long long dead). HOWEVER.... while I took notice there are cute little eskimos on it and ice-bears I didn´t really pay attention what the little Eskimos are actually doing.... Hunting little seals!!! I was really creeped out when I realised. I bet I will actually never wear it...

I also found a hat with a mourning veil at Emmaus Second Hand. John thinks it suits me, but he refuses to make me a widow so I could actually wear it.... ;-)

We were sort of frightened wether we would actually get back with our plane as many flights between Stockholm and Duesseldorf got delayed, however we were lucky and it went off in time and arrived early enough for us to catch the airport shuttle...

So now we are back. We arrived this morning between 1:30 and 2 and I was so tired I passed out almost immediately...

At last I will post a picture of John with some suspicious looking yellow ice-fountain in the background. We did a lot of speculations what the deal with the yellow ice is... I´ll leave you alone with phantasies of how the canalisation may have exploded or a giant that badly had to pee. We will never find out the truth anyway... It wasn´t us for the record.

The best birthday gift

Hi everyone!

As the weather brought my mood a bit down, I decided to something against it - and go somewhere even more cold and dark to lighten up - Sweden. :-D

A friend helped me to get a apartment that is at least 9 times cheaper than the last one and more central as well. This is good news cause otherwise I couldn´t make this trip at all. While my birthday is actually the 23rd of January I will celebrate it at the 25th (24rth is travell day and there´s no point celebrating at the airport if I can get cake and less stress in a nice swedish café).

The next week I will be busy preparing and getting my travelling documents! Pictures from October 2009 from me hanging around in Stockholm.

There are no burlesque shows or any other events while Iam there, but given the fact that there are tons of interesting museums, shops and yummy cafés I sure won´t get bored :-)

Finally...

I have a bit time to catch my breath and actually write something ;-)

The vacation in Stockholm was fab! My faves of the Vintage stores: Beyound Retro and Stadmission where you were able to make the greatest bargains! This year I was able to check out the rockabilly shop Sivletto, too. So many great clothing, but I´d have to save some more money to shop all I want ;-) However I bought there this little goodie about current Retro-Friends in Sweden. A good pointer on where to go next time:

We also went to museums such as the ones about the crown juwels (disappointing, way too small!), the armery (very interesting!!!) and the Nordic Museum. Most had little headphone thingies so you were able to hear something about the objects displayed which was very very interesting!!! They didn´t have that last year and it´s a fab idea for us history nerds. And the stuff at the Cafe Vette Katten ist divine. If you ever wanted to find out what vanilla mousse with blueberry mousse tastes like I can tell you now: Like a cloud of everything good you can imagine in your mouth. I´m sure that angels made those!

And off course the Burlesque show whose video I showed here already and meeting some old friends.

We didn´t make it to Scandinavias biggest fleamarket though, but that´s on my list for next time!

And great News. Ars Vivendi stocked the Animal Rescue Calendar, so if you didn´t buy it yet you should do it now cause it is for a good cause. And you should keep in mind X-Mas is coming up soon so it would make a great x-Mas gift, too! I know for sure that my Mom will get one from me ;-)

Planning and Planning

Do you believe me that today I copied a city-plan of stockholms quarter Södermalm, researched the exact position of the Vintage-stores I wanna visit, numbered them and put those numbers all over the copy? If that´s not typical for my country I don´t know what is! It´s as typical as beer and brezel. And as reserving the beach-seat with a towel ;-) And all that eventhough Miss Tifa that lives in Stockholm will probably join me shopping anyway and knows best where to go. But a girl has to be prepared. Especially when she found out that she gets lots of money back that she can invest in pretty outfits... :-D

So besides writing down and marking a total of 27 vintage shops in one map I did nooooooooothing. Ok, I did my hair, but my extra-long hair-routine is a regular on Saturdays. And I saw 2 episodes of "Scrubs" in TV that I didn´t know yet (believe me that´s rare. I have seen every season at least once so you can tell that´s a rare thing happening). I wanted to sew, but I didn´t have the energy and the post-delivery of a book on 60s hair didn´t really help ;-) I wait for John to come back from work so we can buy the food for the weekend...

Bye bye bargains

John and me enjoyed last yearsstay in Stockholm so much that we wanna go there again and this time stay longer than 5 days. I´m the one of us that is in charge of organising flights and studd. We wanna go to the same apartment as last year (tiny but wirth a double bed, a small kittchen, close to Central and even closer to the next supermarket) so we got to start saving! Originally we wanted to go for 2 weeks, however that would be too expesive for our tight budget... So we decided on 10 days.

Now I really got to cut down my ebay shopping, lingerie shopping and eventual other things (such as Bésame bargains). Instead I´ll save my money for all those fabulous shopping going on in Sweden. You may not know it, but Stockholm has TONS of Second Hand Shops that actually has clothing older than 70s. And good prices, too!!! I think we went to a dozen of shops last time and we had only one day to shop. I could have visited like 30 and almost all in the same district. I had a copy of the districts city plan and made little coloured marks whereever there was a shop andworked out a route to follow... I hope I still have it somewhere... Otherwise I´ll have to do it all over again ;-) You think I´m kidding? Check out the search results on this swedish website... 106 second handshops and all in Stockholm!!! http://www.aos.se/Sok.aspx?cid=0&kid=6&type=9&fids=274,&sd=2008-04-13&nid=
And a wide range of shops and activities for the rockabilly-crowd: http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article429057.ab

I say it´s vintage shopping paradise... Plus I got Vintage magazines for just 1 Euro a piece! John had to stop me from buying all those 1920s movie magazines in Swedish. (I got some eventhough, but not the whole bunch *sigh*... But this year....)

We also went to a Café that served huuuuuuuuge Chai Latte and snacks that were rather whole meals. Yes I do love Stockholm! Why why why was I born in the wrong country?

Back again

Hi Ladies and Gents,

I´m back from Stockholm and it was sooooo much fun! The sun was shining every day, I made some cute bargains shopping (they throw out old mag for basically nothing and most Second-Hand Stores have very reasonable prices and various sizes for ladies with extra-curves like me). Oh, i already miss Sweden!

Anyway... Lately there have been some really nice interviews with some of the wonderfull people I´ve worked it and I´m sure you´d like to read those:

Lucky Diva:
http://rockinscene.com/interviews/luckydiva.htm

Miss Giggles (in german):
http://www.high-heels-info.de

Oh yes, I really work with some of the sweetest and most creative people in the whoooooole world!!!

Just after coming back I´m busy again... A old friend (ok, not that old, but we know since 10 years for sure) will be coming with her hubby and baby from England and a not so old, but very dear friend, which is lovely Miss Zoe Scarlet, will be showing up this weekend, too. I don´t own a digi-Cam, but I still have some film left from my vacation so I might do some pics and if they turn out nicely I gonna post them... I also did pics dring vacation and if those don´t look too horrid they will make it to my blog ;-)

Hugs,
Sari

It´s the final countdown (dadadadadadaaaaa)

Hi dear ones!

I´m slowly sneaking over to vacation... And there is nothing that can stop me.... Lately I just had a few days off and the last time with more than one week in a row was last year in summer... So one can tell I´m exited.

Anyway before I start my vacation I gonna work extra-hard... Off course there is my day-job, than I want to finish some of my outfits so they are ready in time for going to Sweden (I have one top to finish to go with a pair of shorts, I hope to finish a Hawaii-Top today and it would be extremely cool if I manage to do the skirt to go with it in time, too. Actually I´d love to make a pant-and-top-sailor-outfit, too but I don´t think I can finish that in time, plus I would have to buy the fabric for it first... But we´ll see ;-) and than I will have at least 1-2 shootings before I take off. One with my all-time favourite Miss Giggles (we had more than 6 shootings in the past 3 years together and I don´t think I´ll ever get enough of her). That´s another good reason to finish my outfits, right? :-) Something tells me it will be worth the work...

And after that it´s Johns turn to work.... well, not really, but he´ll have to carry the tons of stuff that I buy in Stockholm ;-) He allways says I´d be better of shopping with girlfriends, but I don´t think the girlfriends would be carrying my bags and he´s my stylist no. one cause I like to hear a male point of view on my outfits and he´s extremely honest if he considers something unflattering which I appreciate a lot. But off course it´s cool to to a girlie-day and hang out with the ladys, too. It´s just a different pair of shoes.

Hugs to you all!
Sari

Ps.: The final countdown was actually one of my first favourite songs as a child besides Falcos "Rock me Amadeus" and Kajagoogoo with "Too shy" (my grandma allways had to dance with me when it was played in the radio *lol*)
