Swedish panoramas

Hello everyone,

I returned from Sweden only yesterday, yet I would like to share some panorama pictures that John took already....
We stayed in a little ecological village just outside of Stockholm. Forrests and trees, yet within 15 minutes we made it to the city by subway.
The Royal castle
City View
Another City View
Outside the Army Museum
Army Museum including me and soldiers
Visiting the Skansen Open Air Museum. We go there every year.
The ship wreck Vasa... World famous for sinking in 1628 on it´s first drive, just 1500 meters after it  departed.
Enjoy! There will be more photos soon!

Baking come cake(ing)

 Hello everyone,

there are several reasons why I bake a lot right now. Fall is slowly coming so I go into the cosy nesting mode which indeed includes baking (last year I baked one million pumpkin pies.... possibly happens when fall is here). A workmate I like a lot is leaving (and moving far far away) so I am sad and need distraction and last but not least as I am going to Sweden in October I bake myself into "Sweden mood" :-). I am not shooting much right now (though I´d love to) and don´t do anything special so I post some baking pictures so at least something happens on this blog ;-)

I made kanelbullar (cinnemon rolls) and a marzipan version as well. Here´s the recepy I used. It is in German but google translator will sure help. I made a marzipan-version because  John is not too crazy about cinnemon, but crazy about marzipan. So after I made mostly cinnemon rolls I thought "Oh what the heck, let´s try something new". I mixed about 25 gramm of melted butter with about 30 gramm of marzipan till it got creamy, put it on the dough, rolled it and put almond pieces on top. Turned out really nice and NOT TOO SWEET. Yay! The photo doesn´t look as nice cause I just took it quickly while they were cooling and than froze them all (not even I can eat over 30 of those AT ONCE). It was my first experiment with a yearst dough.

Today I made mazarins (marzipan cakes) because... well I had marzipan leftover :-) And because I love them and German IKEA is not selling them anymore. (buuuuuuuh!!!) Was too lazy to put on cute little marzipan figures like in the recepy, but if I do a Xmas version I decidedly will ;-) I replaced the Amaretto with Bittermandel and I found those fun sillicone cake forms at TK Maxx. They are cute and take less space than a normal muffin thingie. Now I must go and try my cakes :-) Yay!

Me and the scandinavan winter

I managed to edit one of the videos waiting in line (so much happened lately :-) and it is one showing how much snow you have to handle if you get the glorious idea to go to Sweden in January ;-)

It was so cold that I couldn´t even walk around without my knitted beret PLUS my shawl wrapped around my head so I wouldn´t get headache...

B-day blog

Hi everyone,

it is my b-day but I don´t do something specific. I´m home alone anyway and my personal gift is flying to Sweden tommorow evening. The 25th of January is Johns birthday and we will celebrate both of our birthdays together going to a place serving 8 different kinds of cheesecake and possibly going to a Tiki Bar afterwards. Thanks to everyone that mailed me and/or graulated me on the various networks.

I do not know wether we will have internet there or not. If it is the case I might do like last time and post a photo per day. You can see that on my twitter account: http://twitter.com/RetroModelSari

If I don´t have internet you can expect pics galore once Iam back ;-)

I won a nice piece of luggage on ebay. I cant use it for this vacation, but I look so much forward to getting it!!!

And while my chargers silently reload my akkus I will go and take a bath now. We probably won´t hear from each other for a while (exept on twitter, if we have internet) so I say farewell till the 2nd of February.....

Hugs,

Sari

P.s.: The only ex following me on twitter is kindly asked to read my tweets and use them to go into the opposite direction. It´s creepy enough the way it is.

The best birthday gift

Hi everyone!

As the weather brought my mood a bit down, I decided to something against it - and go somewhere even more cold and dark to lighten up - Sweden. :-D

A friend helped me to get a apartment that is at least 9 times cheaper than the last one and more central as well. This is good news cause otherwise I couldn´t make this trip at all. While my birthday is actually the 23rd of January I will celebrate it at the 25th (24rth is travell day and there´s no point celebrating at the airport if I can get cake and less stress in a nice swedish café).

The next week I will be busy preparing and getting my travelling documents! Pictures from October 2009 from me hanging around in Stockholm.

There are no burlesque shows or any other events while Iam there, but given the fact that there are tons of interesting museums, shops and yummy cafés I sure won´t get bored :-)

Why I post earlier

Due to a strong allergic reaction I had to see my doctor and got out too late to go back to work, however a bit earlier home than I usually do. So I bit the bullet and used the little extra-time to finish off the last part of my Sweden Video Diary.

In this part I take you along to the georgous open air museum and animal park Skansen and on a ferry ride to actually go there (you can go there by bus, too, however I met BB-Man the day before - he is a former member in Rednex - and over a cup of coffee and a piece of cake he suggested we do that as it is more fun than going by bus.)

While my body is out of business again or at least not in tip top condition my mind still is. I have a new brain-child of something I want to do. I hope people will jump the bandwaggon about it, however it won´t be too bad if I remain the only one doing it either. If my allergy has gotten better by Saturday I might start to make my vision come true. It will be a rather unusual thing for a pin up girl to do, but it is for a good purpose.

Back in town

Phew, I´m back. 1000 Kilometers back and forth and some kilometers while walking through Stockholm, too. We are tired and sort of jet-lagged now and we already miss Sweden. I´d love to live there! I´ll tell you more about Sweden when I have the time, meanwhile I have some goodies for you already...

This is a trailer for a pin up travel guide that I filmed while beeing in Stockholm. I hope you enjoy this little teaser of my adventures while I start editing the tons and tons of material I actually have...

And of I go

This monring was awfull. We stayed up extra-long and just permited ourselfes a few hours of sleep so wecan go tobed really early today. However... We slept for3 hours or so when they decided to cut the threes in front our window.... with a CHAIN-SAW. After they had done so for what felt forever we were relieved and started the second try to sleep one more hour. However this was just the moment when the couple living abov us decided to yell at each other and slam the doors. Ouch. Finally they were silent... and the police started to ring at every door cause someone called them because of it. 15 minutes later the postman rang and we finally gave up... ;-)

So now I´ll go to bed and I will not get up before 2am to get ready and jump into the cab. I hope I´ll be having a fab week andI´ll try to take pictures this time...

See you in a week!!!

PReparing

Hi ladies and gents,

I´m preparing for vacation right now and the most important parts are done now: I put my beauty care products in small bottles so don´t have to carry THAT much this time (last time I had an over-weight in my luggage due to the exessive vintage shopping so now I try to travel lightly;-) and right now I try to store as much make up as possible in my beauty case without forgetting something. I already put most of it in there so if I notice something missing in there during my beauty routine I can throw it in immediately. ;-)

'It SEEMS that we´ll be getting sunshine in Stockholm, so I´ll mostly pack skirts and dresses - I´ll take some warm stockings and cardis with me for the case of cases.

However there is bad news in one way: We have to get up at about 2 or 2:30 in the morning this Saturday. URH. In order to be able to we want to skip sleeping in the night from Thursday to Friday (we´re thinking of doing a midnight tea-party with tea, coffee and cake) so we can go to sleep really really early on Friday. I wonder if we´ll manage that tea-party. The last time we did something like that was before we became a couple which means it is about 4 years ago. There we watched movies all night and went to have breakfast at Starbucks the moment it opened. The positive thing is that we are arriving at 9:10 in the morning and have a whole day ahead of us!!!

Besides that I´m not doing that much besides enjoying vacation. I´ll probably put together the clothes I wanna take with me today or tommorow and oh we are sinning foodwise really really bad. I´m talking Coke and icecream. But than we´ll walk around in Stockholm a lot so I´ll burn calories with that. ;-)

I don´t know wether I´ll be meeting anyone I know there... I´ll wait and see ;-)

Stockholm - Another try

So.... When I wanted to go on vacation in June my grandfather deceased and we had to cancel as we couldn´t delay the flight. Now that everything has calmed down we decided to go to Stockholm in October! It will be 6 days instead of the 10 days planned in June, but it´s better than nothing, right? And this time I feel that the luck is with us! The Hootch Kootchy Burlesque Club will be having a show when we are there and off course the Second Hand Shops are open all the time ;-) I also asked if there´ll be an Dr. Sketchy Event there, too as that would be fun, too.

The flight is booked and I wait for confirmation for the apartment. This time all will be going well!!! And i can nag you all with my plans again!

So honey, what will we do?

John totally stunned me by asking "what will we do in Stockholm on our first day". I actually didn´t make any big plans and left things quiet open since we had a rather biiiig schedule last time. Like going to a oldtimer-show (ok, that wasn´t planned, but it just happened to be next to the museum we went to!!!), Wasa-Museum, Nordic Museum and the Skansen Open Air Museum on ONE day. However it seems he wants me to plan it all... haha....

We badly wanna go to the underground medival museum where they re-created a part of Stockholm during medival including ships and a pub, so I guess that´s a must. also a friend of mine gives a concert and I SO wanna go I just have NO idea where it is. Website says "Stockholm area". A truely great hint! ;-) And I wanna do a photoshoot if the weather is fine (there´s no point in shooting in a studio if you are in such a fab city with such a charming old town) and off course my shopping tour. I might meet someone else, too and we badly wanna find that café with the 8 different sorts of cheesecake. And Skansen for midsommar if the weather is nice. However I checked on the weather and it is supposed to be rainy all the time!!!! :-( But I´ll make the best of it.

Miss Li

That´s what you get when you listen to Swedish Radio... I think I´ll have to track down her Cd´s in Sweden.... I think she´s fab!
Plus I think she´s cute. Unfortunetly there aren´t any concerts while I´m around. Nothing going on in June :-(

Bye bye bargains

John and me enjoyed last yearsstay in Stockholm so much that we wanna go there again and this time stay longer than 5 days. I´m the one of us that is in charge of organising flights and studd. We wanna go to the same apartment as last year (tiny but wirth a double bed, a small kittchen, close to Central and even closer to the next supermarket) so we got to start saving! Originally we wanted to go for 2 weeks, however that would be too expesive for our tight budget... So we decided on 10 days.

Now I really got to cut down my ebay shopping, lingerie shopping and eventual other things (such as Bésame bargains). Instead I´ll save my money for all those fabulous shopping going on in Sweden. You may not know it, but Stockholm has TONS of Second Hand Shops that actually has clothing older than 70s. And good prices, too!!! I think we went to a dozen of shops last time and we had only one day to shop. I could have visited like 30 and almost all in the same district. I had a copy of the districts city plan and made little coloured marks whereever there was a shop andworked out a route to follow... I hope I still have it somewhere... Otherwise I´ll have to do it all over again ;-) You think I´m kidding? Check out the search results on this swedish website... 106 second handshops and all in Stockholm!!! http://www.aos.se/Sok.aspx?cid=0&kid=6&type=9&fids=274,&sd=2008-04-13&nid=
And a wide range of shops and activities for the rockabilly-crowd: http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article429057.ab

I say it´s vintage shopping paradise... Plus I got Vintage magazines for just 1 Euro a piece! John had to stop me from buying all those 1920s movie magazines in Swedish. (I got some eventhough, but not the whole bunch *sigh*... But this year....)

We also went to a Café that served huuuuuuuuge Chai Latte and snacks that were rather whole meals. Yes I do love Stockholm! Why why why was I born in the wrong country?

It´s the final countdown (dadadadadadaaaaa)

Hi dear ones!

I´m slowly sneaking over to vacation... And there is nothing that can stop me.... Lately I just had a few days off and the last time with more than one week in a row was last year in summer... So one can tell I´m exited.

Anyway before I start my vacation I gonna work extra-hard... Off course there is my day-job, than I want to finish some of my outfits so they are ready in time for going to Sweden (I have one top to finish to go with a pair of shorts, I hope to finish a Hawaii-Top today and it would be extremely cool if I manage to do the skirt to go with it in time, too. Actually I´d love to make a pant-and-top-sailor-outfit, too but I don´t think I can finish that in time, plus I would have to buy the fabric for it first... But we´ll see ;-) and than I will have at least 1-2 shootings before I take off. One with my all-time favourite Miss Giggles (we had more than 6 shootings in the past 3 years together and I don´t think I´ll ever get enough of her). That´s another good reason to finish my outfits, right? :-) Something tells me it will be worth the work...

And after that it´s Johns turn to work.... well, not really, but he´ll have to carry the tons of stuff that I buy in Stockholm ;-) He allways says I´d be better of shopping with girlfriends, but I don´t think the girlfriends would be carrying my bags and he´s my stylist no. one cause I like to hear a male point of view on my outfits and he´s extremely honest if he considers something unflattering which I appreciate a lot. But off course it´s cool to to a girlie-day and hang out with the ladys, too. It´s just a different pair of shoes.

Hugs to you all!
Sari

Ps.: The final countdown was actually one of my first favourite songs as a child besides Falcos "Rock me Amadeus" and Kajagoogoo with "Too shy" (my grandma allways had to dance with me when it was played in the radio *lol*)
